Camping provides the inevitable experience that you, your family and most of your possessions will probably get dirty. If you’re prepared beforehand, it won’t stress you out when it occurs. Just enjoy and appreciate being free in the wilderness; get stuck in and get messy. You can always take a bath back at the house.

Put together a survival pack and have it on you all the time. This kit should include water-purifying tablets, a first-aid kit, flare gun, survival knife and waterproof matches. Your kit may be all that stands between you and certain death if you become lost, as the items within it are essential to survival. Carry it at all times.

Pack what is necessary for your children. Camping can be messy. Kids love to play in the dirt. Expect them to be all shades of dirty as the day moves on. You don’t want to interrupt their fun, it’s a joy of camping after all; but, keep some extra clothing with you for them. Be sure you’re prepared!

Before going camping, take a course in first aid, especially if you plan to bring children with you. Should an emergency arise, your knowledge of first aid can prevent further issues until help arrives. Make sure you do the proper research. Find out if the local snakes are poisonous or if there may be plants or animals that you need to avoid.

If you are taking kids camping, have them eat a “jungle breakfast.” Take little juice boxes, mini cereal boxes, and fruit into the woods and be sure to tie them to a nearby tree. Once the children are awake, tell them they need to forage for their meal. It is a fun way to start the day and something for the kids to look forward to each morning.

Combine your camping trip with some swimming. You are probably going to miss the shower you have at home while camping. You’ll feel much cleaner by swimming in cool water. Therefore, you aren’t going to miss your home shower as much.

Don’t forget to pack up some duct tape when you’re camping because it’s very versatile. You can patch holes in your tent, your mattress or your shoes, or secure your tent poles, seal mosquito netting and much, much more.

Inform your children of possible dangers before taking them camping. It only takes a few minutes of going online to look at photos of plants they should avoid, such as poison ivy or other such things, to make sure your camping venture is free from common mishaps.
