Are You Going Camping? Use This Advice To Plan!

To some people the thought of camping inspires thoughts of bugs, inclement weather, and burned hot dogs. While this may be true for some people, it’s not true for everyone. You can have a great time, eat great food and avoid those pesky bugs if you plan properly. Read on to learn what it takes to plan a great trip.

Set up a “jungle breakfast” when you are camping with your kids. Tie up small boxes of juice, cereal and food to a tree. Then, when the kids wake up, have them go and “hunt” for their breakfast. This is a wonderful way to add fun to their camping enjoyment.

Consider camping in an area that also provides you with a place to swim. Many people miss a nice warm shower while camping. Cool water can give you a feeling of exhilaration that may help you to miss your shower at home much less.

Dryer Lint

You can use dryer lint as a kindling to start a campfire with. Before you go camping, start saving lint from the dryer’s filter. Keep a plastic bag right next to the dryer and put the lint in there. Just grab your bag of dryer lint and go on camping day.

Pillows are a good item to bring to maximize your level of comfort while camping. If you bring a standard pillow for the bedroom, they become sticky and hot when the weather is humid. They can mildew quickly after absorbing moisture. Pillows made specifically for camping have a protective layer that keeps these things from happening.

Did you just purchase a new tent for your trip? Give your tent a test run before you set out to pitch it in your first camp site in the wild. By doing this, you will know all the equipment that you will need to take with you to effectively pitch the tent. This will help you set up camp in a hurry if you get to the site just before dark.

Use an orange to help prevent bug bites. If you neglected to pack mosquito spray, fear not. Rub the white, pithy insides of the orange skin over your skin. You should be mosquito free for hours.

Plan what you’re going to wear before setting off on a camping trip. Be sure you have a lot of clean clothes that will last you your whole trip. Pack clothes that will allow you to dress properly for whatever weather is expected in the area where you will be camping. It is also a good idea to bring a few pairs of shoes so that you have extras in case of mud or water getting into them.

If you are camping with children, keep a picture of them handy. If they get separated from you, having a picture will make finding them a lot easier. A picture should be carried anytime you are away from home, but even more importantly when camping in the woods.

A lot of people forget to put up shelter before it gets dark. It’s very hard to set up your tent when it’s dark outside. It is possible to do by firelight or by flashlight, but it will more than likely be frustrating and can be downright impossible in areas where there are hazards nearby. It is so much easier to set up your shelter before dark.

Be sure that you include matches, that will not be ruined when wet, in you survival kit. These should be stored in an airtight container. Make some average matches waterproof by simply dipping them in nail polish or paraffin. Make a match holder out of a plastic medicine bottle or a 35mm film container.

Due the fact that food was not packed properly, there are many individuals that get food poisoning while they are camping. Food poisoning can happen when food is spoiled, which is something you risk when you take food not properly preserved, vacuum sealed or canned. Make sure food and drinks stay at a safe temperature by using enough ice. Most coolers have a plug that you can open, this drains the excess water, so your food won’t get wet.

What is your plan for cooking during your camping trip? Decide how you will cook early on, so that you can prepare accordingly. Cooking over a campfire is fun, but can’t be done with out the right tools.

By now you should see that you can have a lot of fun while camping. If you want to have a great time, be sure to put these tips to use. They will help in getting things in order so your camping trip is as positive of an experience as it can be.
